Vessel „Kruzenshtern“ won the World Cup
This afternoon award ceremony dedicated to the race between „Sedov" and "Kruzenshtern“ took place.
Two large sailboats are racing for the second time. This year they left Rostock port and finished in Klaipėda, last years competition was Rostock-Amsterdam.
General Consul of Russia in Lithuania, Anatoly Krotkov, arrived to award the winner. The ceremony was also attended by captains of sister ships Michail Novikov (Kruzenshtern) and Nikolai Zorschenko (Sedov).
The ceremony took place in the winning ship „Kruzenshtern“, which won the race over „Sedov“ ship.
Consul greeted both ships which successfully finished in the port of Klaipeda and awarded "Kruzenshtern‘s" captain with the special award – „World Cup". As it was pointed out by Consul Anatoly Krotkov, in this race the friendship is more important than the competition itself. Bark‘s“ Kruzenshtern“ captain Mikhail Novikov welcomed the honour once again and stated that it was the pleasure to race withuch a strong team of "Sedov". Consul wished best luck to both crews in the forthcoming The Culture 2011 Tall Ships Regatta race. After the awards ceremony, winning sailboat crew danced the traditional Russian dance.
„World Cup“ distance of 200 nautical miles, time difference between the finish of both ships was 2.5 hours. Currently, two sailboats are berthed at the port of Klaipeda, city residents and guests can visit.
